Formosa Plastics Marine Corporation (FPMC) has ordered four 20,000 DWT stainless-steel chemical tankers from the Japanese Shipbuilding Company, Asakawa Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (Asakawa), in 2020. The company named them FPMC S AMBER, FPMC S EMERALD, FPMC S RUBY, and FPMC S SAPPHIRE, respectively. They are scheduled to be delivered from May, 2021 to early 2022, and will serve to carry chemical products of Formosa Plastics Group between Taiwan and China.
The launching ceremony for the first tanker, FPMC S AMBER, was held on February 25th , 2021. Asakawa had simplified the procedures due to the pandemic, yet still preserved some of the traditional customs such as god worshipping, vessel naming and rope cutting. The launching ceremony was traditional, rigorous and thoughtful. The four new tankers present high-quality and high-efficiency ship performance through Japan's sophisticated shipbuilding technology. With the addition of the new tankers, FPMC look forward to an even better vessel management and to providing its clients with more intimate and satisfying service.
